We're excited to continue the 2022–2023 Gulf Coast Reading Series at Lawndale Art Center!

Erika Meitner is the winner of the 2018 National Jewish Book Award for Poetry and author of six books of poems: Useful Junk; Holy Moly Carry Me; Inventory at the All-Night Drugstore; Makeshift Instructions for Vigilant Girls; and Ideal Cities, which was a 2009 National Poetry series winner; and Copia. Her poetry and prose have been widely anthologized. Born and raised in Queens and Long Island, NY, Meitner is a first-generation American: her father is from Israel; her mother was born in a refugee camp in Germany, which is where her maternal grandparents settled after surviving the Holocaust. Meitner is currently a professor of English at Virginia Tech.

Adele Elise Williams is a writer, editor and educator. She is a PhD candidate in Literature and Creative Writing at The University of Houston where she serves as Nonfiction Editor for Gulf Coast. Adele is a finalist for The Georgia Review’s 2023 Lorraine Williams Poetry Prize and the winner of the Emily Morrison Poetry Prize and Inprint Donald Barthelme Prize for Poetry as well as the recipient of fellowships from UCROSS, Inprint, and Hindman Settlement School. Her work can be found or is forthcoming in The Georgia Review, Crazyhorse,Guernica, Cream City Review, Split Lip Magazine, The Adroit Journal, Quarterly West, Beloit Poetry Journal, and elsewhere. Scott Repass has worked as a bartender, an actor, a carpenter, and a barista. He is currently an MFA candidate in fiction in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston. He has a Master of Liberal Studies degree from City University of New York and wrote his master’s thesis about body-switching movies. His writing has appeared in Film Quarterly and Fort Necessity. Scott currently lives in Houston, where he and his wife own Poison Girl, the best bar on the planet.

KT Herr is a queer poet, musician, and curious person from Lancaster, PA. While earning their MFA at Sarah Lawrence College, KT was co-director of the poetry festival and recipient of the 2019-2020 Thomas Lux Award. Their poems have been published in Black Warrior Review, Frontier Poetry, ANMLY, Barrow Street 4x2, and elsewhere. KT is a C. Glenn Cambor Fellow in poetry at the University of Houston, as well as a current board member with Four Way Books. They recently launched a podcast titled “Coordinates: A Podcast for Writers and Readers,” which you can stream on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
